As I prepare the ‘Praying Through The Psalms PDF Guide’ for its release next month, I stand in awe of this biblical book. It gives us words to speak over any emotions we’re experiencing. When I don’t have the words to say in prayer, I can always rely on a psalm to guide me through what to say. For all circumstances we experience, we can recite a psalm over it.
At the beginning of this past week, I had a hard time worshiping and praising God. I was so overwhelmed by the situations demanding my attention that I allowed them to overshadow the Name above them. So, I prayed. I prayed that God would enlighten my eyes to see His goodness over my life. I prayed that He would enlighten my soul to identify the ways He’s currently being faithful and working on my behalf.
The Holy Spirit brought me back to a psalm that I love reading. Psalm 34 – Taste and See that the LORD is Good. To ‘taste’ and to ‘see’ that God is good is to experience God’s goodness for myself. In the midst of the current trials I’m facing, this psalm is helping me magnify God over them. It’s also helping bring to my remembrance all that God has done for me.
I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!
Psalm 34:2-3
Psalm 34 traces God’s constant care for His children. It declares, reveals, and promises God’s grace to His children. It urges the reader to identify the ways in which God has been faithful in their lives. It reminds us that God cares about us and is a refuge to those who love and seek Him. It encourages us to trust in God and to understand that He’s above all. Because of His faithfulness, He will see us through.
The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
Psalm 34:15-17
If you are in the midst of trials that seem overwhelming, beyond repair, or impossible to deal with, I encourage you this week to pray this psalm over your situation. I encourage you to reach out to God even in this trying time.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
Psalm 34:18-19
